The Masseria neighborhood

In Puglia, Salento represents the extreme heel of Italy, over time dominated by Messapi, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Turks, with a territory rich in art, culture and traditions, which together with its 400 km of coasts and “Blue flag” sea have determined the historical-tourist vocation of the whole area.

The still evident traces of the passage of these peoples are testified by the presence of frescoes, churches, castles, towers, fortresses and palaces of all kinds, in addition to the Hellenic area of “Grecia Salentina”, adjacent to the renowned city of Otranto, where thanks to the traveling festival of music in the municipalities, The Night of the Taranta, has brought attention to the language, traditions and history of the Byzantine era in this area.

Masseria Casina Baronale is close to the Natural Park of Torcito, between the towns bordering the coast and Otranto, therefore it is just a few km from these centers rich in art and culture and from the coasts of the Adriatic Sea, among which we mention the fine sandy beaches of the sea of Otranto, of Alimini, of the Baia dei Turchi, of Torre dell’Orso, and of the rocky one of the protected park between Otranto and Santa Maria Di Leuca. The Ionian coast, of which Gallipoli is the most famous town, can be reached in about half an hour by car, thanks to the short distance that separates the two coasts … it is no coincidence that Salento is considered the LAND AMONG THE TWO SEAS.

The wide extension of the feudal territory to which belongs the Masseria Casina Baronale, Carpignano Salentino, extends to the east up to the gates of Cannole and few km from Otranto, coinciding with the eastern border of “Grecia Salentina”. The surprising testimony of such belonging to this ancient community is confirmed by the precious paintings of Byzantine origin dating back to the 10th century, preserved in the crypt of Santa Cristina, visible by appointment with the guides of the “Nea Carpiniana” association. Also in Carpignano, interesting places to visit are: the ducal palace, the small district of the giudecca, the Mother church and the church of the Immaculate, the sanctuary of the Madonna della Grotta and the suggestive alleys of the historical center, where you can still feel the rhythms of other times.
